Watch Battery Replacement
The most common job we do. We fit the correct cell, replace the case gasket and reseal, then pressure check where the case allows. Most are done while you wait.
Usually same visit
Watch battery replacement, link removal, strap fitting, crystal, crown and clasp repair, handled at our Bellevue Avenue studio in Upper Montclair, New Jersey. Free estimate before anything is touched, walk ins welcome, and an honest answer when a repair is not worth doing.
Most watch repair searches in New Jersey end up being one of eight jobs. Here they are, with what each one actually involves and roughly how long it takes.
The most common job we do. We fit the correct cell, replace the case gasket and reseal, then pressure check where the case allows. Most are done while you wait.
Usually same visitBracelet sized on your wrist, not estimated. We keep the removed links labelled with your name in case the watch changes hands or your wrist does.
Usually same visitLeather, NATO, rubber or steel, fitted and sized properly with the right spring bars so it does not drop off a cuff two weeks later.
Same visitScratched or cracked glass replaced with mineral or sapphire to suit the piece, with the bezel and gasket refitted rather than forced back on.
3 to 7 daysA crown that pulls out, spins without setting, or no longer winds. Usually a stem or tube problem and usually fixable without touching the movement.
3 to 7 daysDeployant clasps that spring open on their own are the most common cause of a dropped watch. We repair or replace in matching metal.
3 to 7 daysA full strip, clean, oil and regulate for a watch running fast, slow or stopping. Coordinated through the specialist watchmakers we have worked with for years.
Quoted at intakeBrushed and polished surfaces restored separately so the case keeps its original lines. We will advise against it on collectible pieces where patina matters.
3 to 7 daysAny brand, any origin, any condition. If a piece is better off going back to its manufacturer, we will tell you that instead of taking the job.
Also serviced: Cartier, Tissot, Citizen, Movado, Hamilton, Bulova and most Swiss and Japanese makes, plus unbranded and inherited pieces.
Astra Jewelers is an independent jeweller. We are not an authorised dealer or authorised service centre for any of the brands listed above, and we are not affiliated with or endorsed by them. Brand names appear here only to describe the watches we accept for repair. Servicing that requires factory parts or factory certification is coordinated through specialist watchmakers, or referred to the manufacturer when that is genuinely the better outcome for the watch.
Walk into the Upper Montclair studio during opening hours, or WhatsApp a photo first if you want a rough idea before driving across New Jersey.
We look at the piece, tell you what it needs, and give you a price. If the repair costs more than the watch is worth, we say so.
Small jobs are often done while you wait. Everything else gets a realistic date at intake, and we call you when it is ready.
A quartz watch from a department store can cost more to service than to replace. An inherited piece almost never is. We will tell you which one you have brought us before you spend anything, because a customer who trusts the answer comes back with the watch that matters.
Astra Jewelers at 250 Bellevue Ave, 2nd Floor, Upper Montclair, NJ 07043 replaces watch batteries for walk in customers, Monday to Saturday, 10:00am to 6:00pm. Most standard battery changes are done while you wait, and we test the gasket and reseal the caseback rather than just swapping the cell.
Bring it to the Upper Montclair studio and we will size the bracelet on your wrist rather than guessing. Link removal and refitting on steel bracelets is usually a same visit job, and we keep the removed links with your details in case you need them back later.
Estimates are free and always given before any work starts. Battery replacement and link removal sit at the low end, while crystal replacement, crown and stem work or a full movement service are quoted per piece after we have opened it and seen the condition. You approve the price before we begin.
We take in most Swiss and Japanese brands including Rolex, Omega, TAG Heuer, Breitling, Cartier, Longines, Tissot, Seiko, Citizen and Movado. Astra Jewelers is an independent jeweller and is not an authorised dealer or authorised service centre for those brands. Complex movement work is coordinated through specialist watchmakers we have used for years, and we tell you upfront when a piece is better sent to the manufacturer instead.
Battery changes, link removal and strap fitting are usually same day. Crystal replacement and clasp work typically run three to seven days. A full movement service sent to a specialist takes longer, and we give you a realistic date at intake rather than an optimistic one.
No, walk ins are welcome during opening hours and most small jobs are handled on the spot. Booking ahead simply means someone is free to look at your piece the moment you arrive.
After a battery change or caseback opening we fit a fresh gasket and reseal the case. Note that resealing restores the seal, it does not certify a depth rating, so we will tell you honestly whether a piece should still be trusted in water.
Yes, and these are the ones worth bringing in rather than posting off. We look at the piece with you, explain what is realistic, and say plainly when a repair would cost more than the watch is worth or when originality is better left alone.
We are a second-floor studio on Bellevue Avenue. Appointments get you undivided attention, and walk-ins are welcome during opening hours.
