I thought my watch was not working properly and Eddie sent it out to a Movado watch repair man as it turned out it just needed a battery and a gasket that was improperly put in.They were very honest and didn’t try and charge me for other work that was not necessary Even showed me pictures of what was wrong. How much does ring resizing cost in Montclair, NJ?

Can you resize a ring I bought somewhere else?

Yes. Astra Jewelers takes in pieces from any store, of any origin and in any condition, not only jewelry bought at the studio. That applies across every repair, from resizing and chain work to stone setting and polishing. The piece is assessed with you and quoted free. The work is coordinated through jewelers we trust.

A stone has come loose. Can it be fixed before I lose it?

Yes. It is worth bringing in quickly. A stone that has started to move is usually held by a worn or bent prong. Tightening it is a far smaller job than replacing a lost diamond. Astra Jewelers arranges tightening, resetting or replacement depending on what the setting needs. If the stone is already gone, bring the piece anyway. Matching a replacement to the remaining stones is easier than starting from a description.

What is prong retipping and how do I know if I need it?

Prongs are the small metal claws holding a stone in its setting. They wear down with years of contact against clothing and surfaces. Retipping rebuilds the worn tip so the stone stays held. Worn prongs are the single most common cause of a lost diamond. The usual warning sign is a stone that rocks or clicks when you press it gently. Astra Jewelers checks prongs as part of every free estimate, so it is worth asking even when you came in for something else.

Can you repair a broken chain or a clasp that will not stay shut?

Do you repair stainless steel jewelry?

No. Stainless steel is the one metal Astra Jewelers does not repair. It needs different equipment than precious metals and most stainless pieces cost less than the repair would. The studio repairs gold, platinum and silver jewelry of any karat and any origin.
